Dental Information and Facts
While every denture wearer is unique, there are many generalizations that hold true with most denture wearers. The bone that holds teeth resorbs (disappears) once teeth are lost. A person that once had w well fitting denture or partial denture may find that it does not fit well anymore due to this bone loss. This bone loss occurs and doesn’t stop. The more time that has passed since the tooth was lost the less supporting bone is available to support a denture or partial denture. A person that once ate “nuts” with their dentures may find that eating hard food is more difficult as time passes. As the jaw bone resorbs, there is less bone to support a denture but there is also less bone protecting the underlying nerves (our mouths become more sensitive). Advanced age and many medicines that denture wearers take cause side effects such as a dry mouth. Saliva helps to cushion a denture and it also aids in a denture’s retention. RESI-DENTAL can construct a new prosthesis to help overcome many of these issues but our denture wearers and their relatives and friends should understand that these issues are common and may not ever completely go away. Encouraging a person with a new denture or partial denture can help the wearer to adjust quicker to their new prosthesis. Through the years, RESI-DENTAL has learned many “tricks” to fabricate a comfortable denture or partial denture for our patients. We strive for comfortable and functional dentures and partial dentures to improve the lives of our patients.
